This is really awesome, and i'm really happy to see Tinkerbell in there too which personally (just my opinion) i dont see anything wrong with Asians or anyone of any race cos-playing a character of a race different from theirs.
All the models are stunning but, I say this in the nicest way possible, all of your facial features are similar proportions. The lack of diversity in the picture kinda bugs me, and the poses and facial expressions seem so lifeless :/
If you plan on revising this at some point I suggest maybe re-reading up on the princesses and try to capture their personalities in the photo.
Honestly, I don't see a massive difference. And I'm saying that I don't think they're portraying the princesses' personalities through the poses or facial expressions. No doubt they're all gorgeous but like I said, the lack of life in the photo disappoints me :/
That's just my opinion though. I'm not trying to be insulting
I like the costumes, and the models are all very pretty, but I feel that the personalities of some of the Princesses were forsaken for the sake of pretty posing. For example, Meg looks very sweet, although in "reality" she's sassy and sarcastic.
i think that people who care so much about acurrate race portrayal should sit the fuck down. NO ONE says shit about white people cosplaying japanese chicks. NO ONE. That double standard needs to go. Like asap.
All asian or not, these are great cosplays and they did a great job! <3
I agree with you about people should calm their tits down when it comes to talking shit about races for cosplay..
But at the same time I would ask you to reconsider your own comment. A lot of people flame Caucasians for cosplaying Asian characters(I've experienced it myself countless of times). Please do your research before throwing a comment like this.
None the less, this is a great photo with 8 very very beautiful girls who all just looks amazing <3
From what I've experienced, most of the time white people getting shit for cosplaying Asian characters are getting shit from trolls. Since when was it okay to even SAY things like this publicly? And if that is getting called out, I might as well call this out too. Not saying that I havn't gotten shit for cosplaying white characters, as I have. I don't see research being necessary when I notice both sides of the spectrum. I don't tolerate any commentary like this.
Call it trolls or not, but people creating groups on facebook for instance, just to state how they think non Asians shouldn't cosplay, is just as bad as people commenting that Asians shouldn't cosplay Caucasians. I'm not out to argue with you, Cause I agree with you that it really shouldn't be a problem to anybody, I'm simply just stating that I found your comment offending, - cause everybody cosplaying characters not matching their race seems to at some point get comments like that - that's all.
there's a difference between trolls and people who legitimately feel that the cosplay doesnt work because of your racial standing. I'm not arguing with anyone. Don't get me twisted. The comments stated above that I have addressed weren't trolls. But people who are trying to 'not offend' but still thinking it's okay to point out their racial difference. Not saying that trolls and those people are OKAY, obviously they aren't. But there is clear difference.
'these are great cosplays but the princess aren't all asian so it doesn't work'
Now if I go find someone who is caucasian on DA and dog down the comments, how many do you think i'd find that would point out race? My guess <and actual conclusion because I have looked> are few. Western media is barely reaching the cosplay scene in east asia. But Eastern media has been here in the western world for as long as the community has been alive. My temperament aside, there IS unevenness in the spectrum. How I choose to address it is up to me. And I assure you, I know what I'm talking about.
I know there is a difference, and I've experienced both. I understand your point in it all, and I agree, but by saying that No one comments about Caucasians cosplaying Asians is not true. By stating this you obviously don't know all of it, which is just fine. Comments like "This is good, but the character is asian" is very common to get, which is exactly the thing you point out people comment to photos like this. Once again; I don't disagree with you at all. These characters are drawn/animated and non existing, and cosplaying them is done for the love to the character, and that shouldn't be about race. My point in all this is simply that the way you wrote your first comment seemed quite offending in a way, as you basically throw aside all the issues for all other races than Asians. It is a topic I often hear and often see different places both online and in private conversations among people. Those saying "western people shouldn't cosplay"
Trolls or not, it is only a matter of how rude people express themselves, I believe both is equally bad, since the opinion behind it is the same.
conclusion; We agree, I completely get your point so no need to be aggressive or anything, cause I can only say that I too think people should just leave out comments like those, and I too think the quality of the cosplay isn't based on the race. All I would like you to do is maybe for another time not post something such as "NO ONE says shit about white people cosplaying japanese chicks. NO ONE" - cause that is just as offending as the other comments. If you don't tolerate reading comments like that, you shouldn't post them yourself and yes I know there is a difference in it, there is a difference between getting kicked by a horse and getting kicked by a cow too, but both things have the same effect.
So debating aside, If you want to continue the conversation feel free to send a note. I think we should leave the topic here for now so it doesn't overflow the inbox of vaxzone's I think it is a beautiful thing that you want to defend people when they get racist comments of any sort, and I know sometimes you don't quite think all small comments through before posting.
That is exactly the thing.. Why is it even a problem to some people? But sadly some people are just butt-hurt that Caucasians cosplay Asian characters as well as some are butt-hurt that Asians cosplay Caucasian characters.. not to mention how some people also have a problem with darker tanned people cosplay characters with light skin.. I think it's all just bullshit cuz u should cosplay the characters you like no matter the skincolor or the shape of the eye for that matter..
